REVOLUTIONARY WAR service of a Henry BARTON is found in National Archives
Microfilm 881, roll no. 933. Pvt. Henry BARTON enlisted on 1 Mar 1777
for a period of 3 years. He served in Capt. Andrew Wallace's Co. of the
12th Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. James Wood and Capt. Andrew
Waggener's Co. of the 8th Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. James Wood.
On 5 Oct 1778 Capt. Waggener's Co. was encamped at Robisons Farm.CITED in Chalkley's "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in
Virginia," pg. 89: "McKay vs. Rout and Barton - O.S. 50; N.S. 17 - Bill
filed 20th September 1794. Many years ago William Weathers, then of
Frederick, was possessed of Land in Frederick. During War of Revolution
he was reported killed by Indians and his sisters took possession as
heirs, viz: Susanna Barton (Burton), wife of Henry Barton; Jane Hurst,
wife of Jacob Hurst, and Sarah Johnston, wife of Enos Johnston. Henry

NOTE from descendant Gary Michael Barton - 9 Dec 2002: There is
considerable confusion about this William Barton b. 1761, his nephew
William Barton b. 1780, and his son William Barton b. 1819. All were in
a small geographic area then called Indian Creek, Kentucky, now in the
village of Woodbine, Knox County, KY, at about the same time. "Old"
William Barton b. 1761 and "Young" William Barton b. abt 1780 are both
buried in the Old Helton Cemetery near Indian Creek in Woodbine, Knox
